Just lliked this article so that to share it with you all, as it’s of one of the blogger have written in AOL India Blogs about the movie Jodhaa Akbar in a very classy way:

To borrow the famous words of Mel Brooks,”The Legend had it coming”. At least it deserved a perspective from one of our best film makers.

Another two weeks before the might of the Mughal Empire unleashes on a Cinema screen near you.
And for the majority who is apt to get confused at the whole premise of AKBAR the GREAT and this Rajput Princess “thingy”, better ruffle through those old history textbook pages once again, if you can find them, that is.
It shouldn’t matter anyways.

For the rest who scream from the nearest fort ramparts about how Ashutosh Gowariker is shortchanging history and manipulating facts to his own interests, I say, please give him a break.
He has proved to be a great story teller, and a fine craftsman of the Silverscreen and if he wants to tell you a story in his own terms, let him do it.

Knowing Ashutosh Gowariker and his portfolio of fine craftsmanship, JODHA-AKBAR wouldn’t be disappointing. I am hoping that my wait was worth it. AR Rahman’s music that seems to be flowing at you from every second FM station these days doesn’t seem to disappoint you. Though as far as Ashutosh’s handful of movies are considered, the music played its part in the entire movie and then kept quiet. The stress was on the wholesome movie and not on the “item” numbers which usually are marketed as by-products of the main movie.

For those who came into the history classes late, or have never ever attended it once, arguably(after all, it wouldn’t be history if we didn’t, get it.) Jodha Bhai was the daughter of King Bharmal who gives away her daughter in marriage to young Jalaluddin, who makes his valiant presence felt in the battlefield, and is soon to be crowned and be known as Akbar the Great.

In keeping with the traditions based on the social customs and conditions of those times, marriages were more political alliances than “suitable”matches, and they kept the entire machinery of the Hindustan’s splintered royalty chugging on smoothly.

Seen as a prequel to Mughal-e-Azam, everything that has been done to Jodha-Akbar has been done in a grand scale or maybe, in Ashutosh Gowariker’s way of translating opulence. I always shiver at the prospect of those period drams that graced our silverscreen in recent times, and the apprehensions are still there, restless, but they have been unceremoniously banished to the back of my mind.

The last one that came in during Diwali(not exactly of the epic variety, but the marketing mandarins were adamant!), in an arresting blue afterglow, and spelling out opulence in big, large, cringing NEON from its every set, had me fleeing the Cinema. And that from another acclaimed Director.

For Hrithik Roshan, this is an “epic role”of a lifetime(though I am wondering what would best describe his role as Gautam Buddha for Shyam Benegal’s next project).

This also happens to be Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan’s first release post wedding, so it gains all the more gravitas as it naturally attains the grand inertia of the the First Family of Bollywood. Mme Rai’s last foray into an epic was to say the least “scathing”.

Maybe its just the beginning of epic roles for Hrithik.

Has Ashutosh Gowariker got it all wrong? Noted historians have contended that his highly publicised film Jodhaa Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwariya Bachchan, is factually incorrect.

Noted historians maintain that Mughal Emperor Akbar never married anyone named Jodhabai. And that Jodhabai was, in fact, his daughter-in-law, Jehangir’s wife.

“Historical documents, including Akbarnama and Jehangir’s memoirs, say it was not Akbar but Jehangir who got married to the House of Jodhpur. So the princess was later called Jodhabai,” says historian Satish Chandra, author of NCERT History books.

Agrees historian Mohammad Amin. “Akbar forged alliances with Rajput families and he married the daughter of Raja Bharmal of Amber, who was later titled Maryam Rahmani or the Mother of Rulers of the Universe. But there is no evidence to say that she was called Jodhabai.”

The debate comes ahead of the film’s release next month. Rajput organisations in Rajasthan have threatened to block the release, accusing Gowariker of distorting facts.
When the film was about to go on the floors couple years ago, the Rajput Mahasabha had warned the makers about potential consequences of manipulating history for a political agenda (BJP ruled Rajasthan is due for elections soon as are other BJP states like Madhya Pradesh). Lawsuits were said to be bound to follow for starters with violence following possibly after that.

But since then, apart from the Rajput Mahasabha, a 2nd front, the Karni Sena has stepped forward warning Jodha Akbar also. It has warned the people of Jodha Akbar of physical consequences upon film’s release if they felt an unseemly agenda using coverups and distortion of history was being perpetrated using the cover of this movie. Jodha Akbar has been threatened to be taken off the screens its first weekend itself if that would be the case.

She is the face of Maharashtra tourism and now model Mugdha Godse is all set for her Bollywood debut and how. The pretty gal will play the role of a supermodel in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’ with scenes reminiscent of Carol Gracias’s famous ‘wardrobe malfunction’.

“It’s a hard-hitting performance oriented role which tracks the journey of a model,” says the 23-year-old. As for the malfunction, it could still happen without being there in the script.

Akshay Kumar’s Sikh look in Vipul Shah’s forthcoming ‘Singh is Kinng’ has been facing objections from the time the first promotional still of the film was released. It is being said that his clean-shaven face with a trendy turban is a mere mockery of the Sikh culture.

Now, there is another photo from the film’s sets which is doing rounds on the net which is facing objections from the Punjabi community in Australia over the way Akshay is wearing a turban.

However, director Vipul Shah insists that the photo does not depict Akki’s real look in the film. It was taken without permission. Vipul Shah defends saying that Akshay is himself a Punjabi and is working in close coordination with stylist Shabina Khan for his look in the film. Apart from this, a local Sikh is always on the sets to guide Akshay about how to wear a turban.

Vipul Shah is shooting almost half of ‘Singh Is Kinng’ in Australia in his two month long schedule. After this the film will be shot in Punjab, Mumbai and Egypt.

Sonali Kulkarni has always stayed away from glamour and unnecessary exposure in films. But now Sonali has dared to bare her back in Sahara One’s ‘Strangers’.

STRANGER is about the emotional turmoil, mind games and a shockingly devious plot that forms the crux of the emotional thriller starring Jimmy Shergill, Kay Kay Menon, Nandana Sen and Sonali Kulkarni. The film’s storyline revolves around the two men who meet in a train and plot to murder each other’s wife.

Director Anand Raj was apprehensive if Sonali would say yes to a semi-nude scene in the bath tub, but since the scene is an integral part of the film and Sonali being absolute professional, she agreed to do the scene stressing that the scene is not to add sleaze in the film.

They made a fabulous team to give up a strong performance in the critically acclaimed ‘Omkara’. Now, director Vishal Bharadwaj and actress Kareena Kapoor team up once again for the love story “Mr Singh & Mrs Mehta” to be produced by UTV. The movie is based on a love story of two married people.

Not long before, Aamir Khan had been chosen for the lead role, but somehow Aamir Khan and filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj did not agree with each other on certain points in the script and they decided to amicably part ways.

While Kareena Kapoor will play Mrs. Singh, the production house is looking around for Mr. Mehta. Let’s see who eventually bags the role!

Kareena, who is anyway beaming coz of her new found love (Saif Ali Khan), is all smiles again, “Yes, I’m going to work with Vishal again. He is such a sweet human being and a fantastic director. His sense of screenplay is outstanding. He’s a master at character sketches.”

“And what a gripping plot in ‘Omkara’! He was so focused on his script and not at all awed by stars. It’s been a while since I felt so satisfied as an actress,” she added.

Bombay to Bangkok

Bombay to Bangkok

Nagesh Kukunoor is back to the genre he began his career with some light entertainers. in this outing Bombay to Bangkok , he goes a step further in his creativity and incorporates every ingredient available to make this a typical Hindi film with the local Masala in it. This film is not the same from Kukunoor’s earlier, but has some change in it.

The plot is well carved and also made interesting but little bit of more conscious ness of Nagesh Kukunoor would have made the film more near to super success. The drawback is its lack of tuning in its screen play and what holds promise at the start looks to get ordinary and also at the end below the line.

Of course, Kukunoor’s expert execution of the material makes a difference and a few sequences are elated to the watch able level, but the overall impact is still missing.

Story

Shanker (shreyas Talpade), a petty thief, in desperate need of money (that’s common for a thief), steals some money from a local Don (Naseeruddin Shah) and escapes his way into some team of doctors heading for relief work in Bangkok. Unfortunately in the exercise Shanker looses the money bag.

In Bangkok, his world turns upside -down at a massage parlor where he meets jasmine (lena). The hitch is, she is all Thai and he cannot converse with her at all. A ray of hope comes his way the next day when jasmine is terrible in need of a doctor.

Shanker, posing to be a specialist doctor along with Sardar buddu Rachinder, jumps into a whirlpool ,while Jasmine gets pulled into his adventures while the two are in a running spree from the Don and his son ( Vijay Maurya)

Nagesh’s films are well weaved on the lines of the characters and the one’s in Bombay to Bangkok are no exception. There is a plain cook turned thief –perfect; there is a Thai woman who works as a volunteer in the day an the massage parlor ion the night-well apt again; then there is a Don’s son who wants his money back, but is more focused on being a rapper –great.

The problem is ?the few individualistic scenes like shreyas first encounter in the massage parlor ,his prescribing Viagra to all his patients and the sequence with lena’s uncle who is a hardcore bollywood buff do raise some giggle, but when viewed in totality ,the zing and the zeal for comedy is missing.

The songs are little but soothing and some are situational too, like Same Same But different and Mausam suhana hain being well tuned .although Nagesh has shot the film in Bangkok ,but still the beauty of the metropolis is missing as the film takes its take in the outskirts of Bangkok.

Performances

Shreyas has done his part well and his acting cannot be a let down in the entire film as it adds life to the film and the dude has really given his 100% to the film.

Lena, the Thai babes, is equally important and her gorgeous looks and beauty are impeccable, but the dialogues and the expressions lack some connection in between them.

Vijay maurya is excellent and Yatin Karyekar is alright to the sense. Nasseruddin shah is there only for one scene, and this looks that as if Shah is a like a lucky Mascot for shreayas, as his presence makes shreyas feel that his film is well in bollywood race.

On the whole, Bombay to Bangkok has a few enjoyable moments, but that about it. Some entertainment and some light moments. On the whole not much can be expected at the box office on the collection term.

Jodha Akbar 90 crores?

jodha akbar
Movie prices have hit the roof. With OM SHANTI OM and WELCOME fetching astronomical prices from buyers and also faring exceptionally well at the ticket window, the pricing of forthcoming films is only going higher and higher with each passing day.

The latest is, a leading industrial house has pitched for JODHAA AKBAR. Reportedly, the industrial house has offered Rs. 90 crores for the global distribution rights of the film, inclusive of the lucrative satellite rights. “Really? Is that the rumor doing the rounds of the industry?” Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV breaks into a big smile, when you question him about it, “It's not true. We haven't been offered that amount by anyone.”

But what if there's an offer, will UTV accept it? “We haven't taken a stand yet. It all depends on who makes the offer. After all, JODHAA AKBAR is our baby and our prime concern is to give it the best possible release,” Siddharth states.

Suniel Wadhwa of UTV corroborates, “In any case, there's not much time left [the film is fixed for February 15]… the period is too short for anyone to step in. The promotion is in full swing, the publicity material has been dispatched to theatres. Under these circumstances, it would be next to impossible to incorporate the logo of the company on the publicity material. It's not feasible,” he reasons rightly.
